Requirements: Accessible Bathroom  Colour Palette: Pink, White Marble & Black

As part of an extension, our client needed an accessible bathroom designed and fitted for their 17-year-old daughter. Working with Building Control and the daughter’s care service, we ensured we were complying with all building regulations and that all accessibility requirements were met.

The client didn’t want it to look like a typical accessible bathroom, rather a homely bathroom space for their teenage daughter. We achieved this by complimenting the space with wood finishes for a warm feel, and various colours and textures for added style.

DETAILS EXPLAINED

One of the key features of the room was the installation of a pivot shower door to allow space for a wheelchair to turn around within the bathroom, along with easily accessible seated areas inside and outside the shower area for both washing and drying. Above the seated drying area, we installed lots of storage for easy access to toiletries, make-up etc. 

With the aesthetic nailed, the bathroom just needed some final touches to make it fully accessible. A wet room shower tray was installed to allow for a seamless finish for easy movement around the space. As well as this, the sink was positioned close to a nearby handrail, and the flooring chosen to comply with a certain slip rating to ensure all safety standards were met.
