Following this, we carry out a detailed home survey, usually within a week of your showroom visit. This ensures measurements are precise and any structural considerations are identified early. In many UK homes - particularly older properties - this stage prevents delays later on.

The design process generally takes two to four weeks . This allows time to refine layouts, review materials and ensure every element feels considered.

Last month, the exact Design Team had the pleasure of attending the Beckermann Kitchen Show and Bora Experience Center in Germany, to explore the latest trends and innovations in the kitchen industry. From new slim frame shaker kitchens to a self-cleaning sink, we can’t wait to introduce some of these features to our 2025 designs.

Samples will be available in our showroom in the next few weeks but for now, take a look below at some of the key trends from the show.

Fluted Doors

Fluted doors were a popular feature in many of the show’s displays. Their design offers a modern yet timeless touch to cabinetry. Their vertical grooves add texture and depth, transforming simple surfaces into standout features. Available in a number of tones and finishes, fluted doors bring a refined, handcrafted feel to your kitchen.

Whilst the ‘kitchen triangle’ is still a practical way to create kitchen zones, there’s a surge in kitchens being designed with 5 zones in mind.

As modern family life evolves, so do the requirements of their kitchens. These aren’t just spaces for cooking anymore–they’re for entertaining, dining and even working at times. This means that the design of kitchens needs to cater to these requirements.

As much as the kitchen triangle introduces a base level of zoning, it often doesn’t cater to open-plan spaces or connecting areas of the kitchen. Nor do the points of the triangle allow for ‘working zones’ where more than one person can cook at the same time.

This is where the five zones come in, which allow for plenty of space and for kitchens to be planned to maximise productivity. These zones are:

1. Consumables

This area is dedicated to all the things you’ll eat or drink and is often split into fresh and dry areas; such as your fridge and your larder or pantry. This allows for all of your food and drinks to be in the same place, allowing for heightened kitchen organisation.

The consumables zone is best when it’s placed near the next zone, saving a lot of time moving back and forth:

2. Preparation

This is the zone in which any food preparation will take place, so you’ll need adequate space to do so whilst also having storage for any utensils you’ll need. It’s important to also make sure you have access to things such as chopping boards, mixing bowls, oils and spices.

3. Non-Consumables

When it comes to storing any crockery, cutlery and glassware, it’s usually best to keep these out of the main cooking or preparation zones but close to wherever it is that you’ll want to plate up.

This is to make sure that one person reaching for a glass doesn’t get in the way of someone else using the hob, whilst keeping everything of this nature in one convenient area of the kitchen.

4. Cooking

The two key functions of this zone will likely be for the use of your oven and hob. Whether these are separated or part of the same unit, it’s important to make sure the tools you’ll need are close to hand.

For example, baking trays should ideally be stored by your oven whilst pans are close to the hob.

5. Cleaning

This is the place where your sink will live, usually accompanied by any cleaning products which will go underneath. Despite what the name suggests, this zone is also for accessing water. Therefore, it would be beneficial to make sure it’s within easy reach of your preparation zone.

1. Consultation

The start of the exact process begins with a design consultation with one of our designers. This is the chance for you to take us through the style of kitchen you are looking for, and any design ideas you have in mind. If you aren’t sure what you are looking for yet, we encourage you to take a walk through our showroom to feel inspired and gain ideas. In fact, many clients end up choosing worktops, flooring, appliances and even whole rooms from the showroom for their new space!

During the consultation, our designers will understand your requirements and uses of the space to inform their design. We don’t just want to create a beautiful space, but a practical one too, that will work for you as well now as it will in years to come. We will talk through worktops, flooring, and of course, appliances , and aim to give you a good idea of the cost of your project.

2. Design and Presentation

Once the site survey has taken place and a design is drawn up, we invite you back to the showroom to experience your new kitchen or bathroom presented on the big screen! This is usually one of the most exciting stages of the project, with 3D visuals that bring your room (or rooms) to life in front of your eyes. Of course, we don’t usually get it 100% right the first time, so this is the ideal opportunity to discuss tweaks or changes to the design. Usually, there are a couple of rounds of design amends before the space is finalised, to ensure we get it exactly right.

3. Place Your Order

Once the design is finalised, a final cost will be drawn up and it’s time to place your order! A 25% deposit is required at this stage. However, this isn’t the final order stage, so if you do decide along the way that you would like some alterations or upgrades, this is still very much possible. Your designer will make you aware of the final cut-off date for all choices to be made, to ensure you have time to get your space exactly right.

4. Installation

The final step of the stage is the installation! Part of what makes us so unique is that we not only take care of your design and sourcing of the products and materials, but we handle the whole installation process too, in one combined contract! No need to worry about booking a plumber, builder, or installer - we handle everything in-house, saving you the hassle of coordinating different trades, which can get tricky if timelines run over or things don’t go to plan!

Wokingham Foodbank does essential work to stop those in need from going hungry in the Wokingham area.

This client wanted an open plan kitchen that was a little different from the ordinary. We designed a two-tone kitchen consisting of concrete units and metal titanium cupboards and island, creating a fresh and vibrant feel. This was offset by a bold blue statement feature wall.

Wood and Gloss White

In search of a ‘wow’ factor space, we designed a high gloss handleless design, accented with hints of rustic oak from Beckermann. This complemented the solid wood breakfast bar that curves out in a teardrop shape from the island, complete with luxury wood panelling from Acupanel at the rear, creating a stunning and eye-catching feature.

Subtle Shades for a Modern Design

An ultra-modern style created by combining polar white kitchen cabinets with Silestone worktop in Eternal Serena suede matte finish. To offset the polar white, we added accents of black throughout the kitchen using a matte black Quooker boiling tap , pendant lights above the island and black seats, helping to maintain a modern, sophisticated look.

Copper and Black

A distinct and stylish design using copper units, offset by a combination of matte and high-gloss black, inspired by a kitchen in our showroom . Introducing copper to the design not only added a personal, stylish flair to the space but prevented the black from overpowering the room. The interior designer took shades from the copper of the kitchen design to work into the blinds and soft furnishings which finished our project.

A Unique and Modern Luxury Kitchen and Utility Room

We recently completed this beautiful, modern kitchen and utility room for the Trepte family in Finchampstead.

We designed the CAD visuals for this project over two years ago before the house was built, so we are very excited that the project is now complete!

Turning Ideas into Reality

The Trepte family approached exact because of our bespoke design service and wide range of styles and finishes from the highest quality suppliers and materials. With specific visions of what they wanted for their kitchen in their new home, they came to us to bring their ideas to life. As their house was not yet built at this point, we worked in close collaboration with the architects to design the kitchen to match the drawings and dimensions of the new house. We designed the kitchen and utility room so that it would be sourced and ready for installation as soon as the house build was complete.

Installation and Result

When it came to installation almost two years later, we reviewed the CAD designs with the Trepte family and they decided to change the statement colour of their kitchen from turquoise to a bolder blue. They also decided to change the colour of the chairs to burnt orange to add a warm pop of colour to the kitchen.

The end result was an eye-catching modern kitchen and utility space that would suit the practical needs of the family and act as an attractive space for entertaining guests.

Under rules announced by the government last year, all new homes and buildings in England will have to produce significantly less CO2 - around 30% lower than current standards.

This will be an important step towards a cleaner greener built environment, paving the way for the Future Homes and Buildings Standard in 2025, which will mean all future homes are net-zero ready and will not need retrofitting. However, for the rest of the UK’s housing stock, this leaves some 29m properties needing to be brought up to net-zero carbon standards in order to meet the government’s 2050 target.

Operating the typical kitchen represents a concentration of home energy use, greenhouse gas emissions, and threats to indoor air quality. Fortunately, there are energy-efficient, air quality friendly options for every function in the kitchen, allowing you to reduce your home’s energy needs.

As experienced and skilled designers, we are always looking ahead to predict industry trends, and while kitchen trends can last for ten years or more, they adjust slightly year on year, making it important that we are ahead of the game to continue to design innovative and clever designs.

Here are our predictions for the kitchen design elements that will be on-trend in 2022:

1. Bold colours

Over the last few years, we’ve seen bold colours make a comeback to kitchen interiors. Colour is a great way to add some personal flair to your kitchen. Look for bolder and brighter colours to add throughout your kitchen in 2022. There is no rule for which colours to go for, but when in doubt, go for colours that can double as neutrals, such as navy blues, grey-greens and earth tones. Greens and blues are already well established in kitchen design and can be used to create a rich, bold tone throughout your kitchen.

2. Natural Materials

The use of natural materials has been on the rise during the pandemic - from marble and granite to wood and stone. These materials can add warmth and depth to a kitchen and have also been recognised for their health benefits, reducing the amount of chemically treated items in the home. In 2022 we’ll see a simpler, minimalist approach to kitchen cabinets, with handleless designs here to stay. Sleek, modern and elegant, the handleless design can create a contemporary feel for your kitchen. The streamlined, uncluttered look of handleless kitchen units offers a much smoother transition throughout the room, making it ideal for the open plan design of a modern kitchen.
